Online dating popularity has boomed in recent years. With numerous sites such as PlentyOfFish, Match, and many others covering a range of niches. It is estimated that at least 1/3 people have tried online dating.
Even I have tried online dating but due to being an old fashion guy and simply loving the thrill of approaching a beautiful woman in an attempt to create something out of nothing. I never could get aboard the online dating train.
Though it is not my cup of tea, I can understand its appeal.
Ease Of Use
For one it allows people to easily meet another person from anywhere in the world from the comfort of their home. You can read a snippet of their life and decide in the moment if the person meets the dating standards you have set for yourself. Perhaps it is humor, ambition, or simply just the ability to use “you are” instead of “u r”.
With the interactions beings online and not face to face, confidence increases . You can simply send a message without the overly dramatic worry of weird stares, and laughter from friends. Being able to shed those fears and becoming the smooth, demeanour, articulated person with the opposite sex that you’ve always dreamed.
Lots of Options
With the large amount of people in one “area”, you are able to interact or at least try to with numerous people. Because dating is partially a numbers game. This increases your odds of meeting someone.
Success Stories
The numerous successes through online dating inspire other to join the dating ring. Friends tell friends how they met their fiance online. This causes a snowball effect, in which the more people that are on the website increases the amount success stories. Intriguing more people and further increasing the popularity of online dating.
My Personal Opinion
I feel that the reason online dating has become so popular is because the world is becoming more technology based and in a way we are losing touch with people.
“I fear the day when the technology overlaps with our humanity. The world will only have a generation of idiots.” – Albert Einstein
Relationships are not being created as much. Men are not approaching women like they would back in the 80’s in the 90’s in which you either had to have the nerve to court a woman in person or odds are you would end up alone. Now with men doing this less, and the fact that most women are not the ones to come over and start the initiative. Women have drifted towards online dating.
Where there are women, men will follow. It is the reason bars and clubs have numerous” ladies nights get in for free”. Men will always come, so they came to the online dating world.
If you ask women, I would think most of them would prefer to meet that special person face to face and in the moment similar to a Matthew McConaughey romantic comedy. Rather than to filter through the numerous messages of “hii, wazzup, you are hot, wanna hook up, and other charming messages” that seem to fill their in boxes.
Though there is excitement ,blood rushing, and feet being swept off the floor that can never be replicated by a keyboard and monitor. For millions of people around the world. It is the perfect way to meet another person and many have.
