Are you a fan of movies? I know I am! I love watching movie quotes and clips on YouTube. One that I was recently watching was the 100 Best Movie Lines in 200 Seconds , and it made me think about a post that combines a few of the topics that I like, Psychology and Movies.
“I don’t know how to put this, but I’m kind of a big deal.” – Ron Burgundy
Ron Burgundy, a anchorman from well the movie Anchor Man says this to a stunning blonde young lady as she is about to walk away from him. Though he is unsuccessful in stopping her from getting away from him, this line is one the funniest lines I have heard in recent comedy film. When you look past the humor and a the bit of arrogance of the quote , there is lessons to be learned.
Such as, a man with a Pornstache is not to be trifled with but also having a high opinion of yourself is a great trait. Some may call it arrogance, others call it confidence and we all know How Attractive Confidence Can Be but you should always remember, that you are the most important person in the world. You should think highly of yourself.
This reminds me of a quote from the book Art of Seduction by Robert Greene, “Act Like a King and you will be treat like a king.” If you act you are a great person to be around , other people will see it and be draw to being around you.
Gone With The Wind
“Frankly, My Dear I don’t give a damn.” – Rhett Butler
Does this sound familiar. You are in a relationship and your significant other cheats on you, you get upset but because you love them, you forgive them and compromise even though you know deep down you can never truly forgive such an act. You begin to resent them and that resent begins to shine slowly crack through. The relationship starts to slowly take on water like the Titanic and eventually goes under. How about being in an abusive relationship, or being with a person that doesn’t treat you the way you feel you should be treated.
This is what this famous quote from the movie Gone with the Wind is about. Rhett butler goes through the drama that is Scarlett throughout the movie and at the end when she attempts to get him back. Pleading in an attempt to get back into his heart. “Where shall I go? What shall I do?”” She says. He stood firms and states “Frankly, My Dear I don’t give a damn.”.
This is something that we can all learn from. Don’t settle, don’t feel the need to suffer for less than you deserve in a relationship. Stand firm , think WWRBD (What Would Rhett Butler Do ) and walk away.
Dead Poets Society
“Carpe Diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.” – John Keating
We live in a world of routine. Many people are trapped in jobs they don’t enjoy, people they don’t enjoy being with but they suffer through it because a lot of the times. It feels like “This is what life is”. Work a 9 to 5 job until retirement. So those people live mundane and uninteresting lives. We can learn from this quote to be impulsive, live each day like your last and you are guaranteed to have great experiences and stories to share.
I met a guy ( I wish I remembered his name)a few years ago back when I was deeply interested in learning everything about dating and relationship. He was tired of working a 9 – 5 job, so he decided to take everything he needed and put it in a suit case. If it didn’t fit in his suitcase, he sold it. He then traveled the world with nothing but this suitcase. Meeting new people, gaining numerous experience.
Forget the “Most Interesting Man in the World“, at that time I was convinced this man was. Because of his seize the day attitude, he became more attractive to women, they loved to listen to him and he gained a zen like personality. He then began teaching men about enjoying their lives and traveling the world with his suitcase and now teaching men how to be more attractive simply by being seizing the day.
“Oh yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it, or learn from it.” – Rafiki
The famous Baboon from the Lion King is next up on our list. This definitely brings back memories from my childhood, Simba bed sheets and underwear. This is my second favorite Disney movie after Aladdin, and even to this day I have to qualms about seeing it again. There were so many subtle things about this movie that were for adults that if you were to watch it now. You will grasp things that you did not notice when you were a child. This quote being one of them. Learn from past experiences and relationships.
This will help you discover the type of person you are and the type of person that you want to be with. Knowing what you want will help you filter out the type of relationships that aren’t beneficial for you and save you wasted time. A person with standards is infinitely more attractive than a person that will settle for anything or anyone that comes their way. The Importance of having dating Standards can not be overstated.
Good Will Hunting
“Some people can never believe in themselves, until someone believes in them.”
Last but not least, Good Will hunting. Similar to a quote from another show ” Don’t believe in yourself. Believe in me! Believe in the Kamina who believes in you!” , 10 points if you know which one I am referring to. To bring a person to the point of believing in themselves, one of the most amazing feelings they can experience will make them value you so much.As a friend or even as something more.
This is one of the great things about our parents, that no matter what happens they will always believe in you and this is one of the reasons why we love them so much. This feeling is one that you can pass onto others simply by believing in them, and they will value you so much more.
These are some of my favorite movie quotes. What are some of yours and Why?
